This unique program, held on our beautiful campus, includes a variety of academic and recreational modules designed to prepare students for higher learning. See course descriptions below. The Director of Youth Programs is Steve Radlow.
Our High School Preparatory Academy is for students entering Grades 7 and 8 in September 2010.
Our College Preparatory Academy is for students entering Grades 9-12 in September 2010.

2010 CLASSES
YP 108 High School Preparatory Academy for Students in Grades 7 & 8
This six- week program will include a variety of academic, cultural and recreational courses ,designed to prepare students for the high school experience. Academic modules will focus on concepts and skills necessary for success on specialized and standardized exams. All classes are held on our beautiful campus. Limited Enrollment. Program offerings include:
Math Matters-- - a course in mathematical concepts and problem solving skills with a focus on the NY State mathematics exams. This is the perfect bridge program linking one grade to the next.
Humanities-- - a course in language arts and social studies which helps students develop those skills essential for success on NY State standardized exams. Students develop vocabulary, reading and writing skills and keep abreast of current events.
Senior Robotics-- - a hands- on workshop in which students delve into the world of robotic technology. Students will use acquired skills to build their very own working robots. This program is presented by Mad Science of Brooklyn.
Adventures in Animation--an innovative class in which students explore the world of animation using computer software and digital cameras.
Exciting new projects presented each summer.
Intermediate Theater Arts-- -a course designed to build self-confidence and strengthen self-awareness through role playing, monologues and interactive skits. (For students entering Grade 7.)
Improv Theater-- -a dynamic series of workshops in which students present short scenes constructed from predetermined theater games, structures or ideas driven by audience suggestion. (For students entering grade 8.)
Business Brains-- -a class designed to empower young people with entrepreneurial, business and personal finance skills through innovative and fun activities. (For students entering grade 8.)
Fitness for Tweens-- -a physical education course which focuses on nutrition, exercise and indoor sports. (For students entering grade 7.) 



YP 109 College Preparatory Academy for Students in Grades 9-12
Students enrolled in our College Preparatory Academy will participate in activities designed to enhance study skills and test-taking techniques, as well as critical thinking and social skills. Academic modules will focus on concepts and skills necessary for success in high school courses. Limited Enrollment. 
Classes may include:

Project Math-- - classes designed to prepare rising students for high school math curricula as follows: Grade 9-Algebra; Grade 10-Geometry; Grade 11-Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus;
Grade 12-Pre-Calculus/Calculus
Individualized programs available for advanced students.

Humanities -- - an integrated course in language arts and social studies which focuses on the development of vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing skills as well as on current events. Grade appropriate materials are used for students in grades 9-12.
Improv Theater -- - a dynamic series of workshops in which students present short scenes constructed from predetermined theater games, structures or ideas driven by audience suggestion.
Adventures in Animation-- - - In this innovative class, students will explore the world of animation using computer software and digital cameras. New projects are presented each summer.
Book Illustration & Design-- - Using mixed media, students will learn how to design the layout of a book including cover, flyleaf and interior illustrations.
Forensics-- - a hands on workshop in which students delve into the world of detective crime science and secret communications. The classroom will be transformed into a crime lab for this exciting exploration of the fundamentals of forensics. (For students entering Grades 9 & 10.)
Entrepreneurship Today-- - using a real world approach, students learn the stages of a business start-up and are prepared with a working business plan to begin an entrepreneurial venture-not “someday,” but TODAY. (For students entering Grades 11 & 12.)

Description:
QC KinderKamp and Education Program with Sports Component:
This program provides enrichment for youngsters who wish to develop talents and interests outside their regular schools. Offerings are not designed exclusively for the 'gifted' or as remedial courses intended solely for poor achievers, but will extend the regular school curriculum. There is special emphasis on our state-of-the-art technology advanced computer labs for ages 7-8, 9-10 and 11-14. The baseline for every class will be creative exploration. The program is combined with a half day of sports activities.

Hofstra University Specialty Camps
For campers entering grades K-9: Specializing in academics, the arts & athletics

Description:
A half day in a specialty and a half day of instructional swim and recreational sports
Hofstra Summer Camps offers a broad spectrum of coed Specialty Camps designed for children entering kindergarten through ninth grade.
Campers entering kindergarten or first grade in 2010 may register for our Cub Camp, while those entering second through ninth grades may choose from any of our 20 different specialties.
Campers choose one specialty each two week session. Campers may participate in the specialty camps for two, four or six weeks. Campers spend one-half of each day participating in their area of specialization and the other half in planned recreational activities, which includes a period of instructional swim in an Olympic-sized pool. Additionally, a special end-of-the season Session Four one-week program is offered for youngsters who wish to engage in a full-day camp program

Our goal is to assist in the development of the total child educationally, athletically, artistically and socially. Our programs combine the excitement of Hofstra's varied curriculum with the professionalism and knowledge of a distinguished instructional staff. The college campus provides an intellectually enriching atmosphere combined with hours of fun. Full utilization is made of Hofstra's excellent indoor and outdoor, athletic and cultural facilities on its beautiful 240-acre campus.

We offer a wide range of creative activities, sports and academics.
For those campers who enjoy athletics we offer a wide range of specialties in: Athletic Development, Baseball, Basketball, Cheerleading, Golf, Soccer and Tennis.
For those campers whose interests lie in academics and the arts: We offer a wide range specialties in Adventure Education, Computer, Counselor Apprentice Program, Dance, Fine Arts, Reading and Writing Learning Institute, Robotics, Science, Softball Actor's Workshop, Musical Theater 3D Computer Modeling and Animation and Video Game Development.

Hofstra University SEVENTH WEEK (Session Four) Program
An array of one-week programs organized for the family that requires an extended camp program or for the camper who wishes the summer excitement to continue. Each program is geared to meet campers' individual needs. All programs have Hofstra's stamp of excellence and are supervised by experienced and dedicated Hofstra staff. Camps include Aquatic Camp, Band Camp, Cub Camp, Recreation Camp and Travel Camp.

Description:
Children entering grades 1-7 are grouped by age and grade completed. Each group will have between 15 and 20 students and has a counselor assigned to them throughout the day. The children and their counselor move to each of the following content areas, which are led by teachers.
The Content Components: We are pleased to announce themed sessions for the Summer Educational Enrichment Program. Each week will have a unique theme that will carry across the following content areas.
Social Studies/Language Arts
Physical Education/Character Education
Math/Science
Computers

Each class will be developed to include the weekly theme. Special art projects, games, and a guest speaker will be featured each week. A mini variety show and movie feature will take place on Friday afternoon to complete each special week.

Registration begins Tuesday, March 29, 2010 • Cost: $165 per week
