Description:
SOCAPA Summer Programs in Brooklyn are hosted at New York University’s BROOKLYN Campus, located at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge in downtown Brooklyn. Our Brooklyn campus offers 1-6 week sessions (boarding or day) for high school students ages 14-18. Just steps away from two of Brooklyn’s most popular neighborhoods, Brooklyn Heights and the artistic haven of DUMBO, the Brooklyn campus provides the creative energy and backdrop for an exciting summer arts experience.
Students stay in the modern Othmer Residence Hall, eat most of their meals at the campus cafeteria, and attend most classes right on the NYU Campus or at our sister campus in downtown Manhattan at Pace University. Brooklyn facilities include the Dibner Auditorium (300 Seats) and the newly finished Kumble Performing Arts Center, which houses the Kumble Theater (350 Seats), two dance studios, a black box theater, and the best photography facilities and filming locations in Brooklyn.

Program Information:
FILMMAKING: Narrative Filmmaking. Write, direct, and produce films. Shoot in HD and edit with Adobe Premiere.
DANCE: Contemporary Jazz and Hip-Hop. Learn technique and choreography. Perform in Dance Videos and on stage.
PHOTOGRAPHY:: 35mm Film and Digital. Learn studio and lighting techniques, fine art, documentary, and portrait. Darkroom, Photoshop, and Lightroom. Produce a web portfolio.
ACTING: For Film and Stage. Learn Meisner and Method techniques, scene preparation, monologues, and audition technique. Act in films and perform on stage.
MUSIC: Singer/Songwriting and House Band intensives. Rock, jazz, and popular music. Write/arrange and record your own music. Classes in music theory and the business and marketing of music. Shoot an album cover and record a music video for your original song!
SCREENWRITING: Develop two short screenplays and one longer screenplay...or the first act of a feature-length screenplay.

Education and Sports Program: Ages 5-14

QC Sports Club: Ages 9-14
QC Sports Club is a program for campers ages 9 to 14 who just want to play ball: Softball, Soccer, Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, and Swim … all day long! Sports Club includes instruction, drills, and skills. Each sport will be explored.
Theatre Production Program: Ages 5-16
There’s something for everyone either in acting, dancing, music or behind the scenes. The groups work together to form a theater ensemble. Explore the different areas that help create a final-stage production. You will increase your self-confidence and raise your self-esteem. Feel a sense of accomplishment and pride as your family and friends come to see the final production. All the teachers have extensive experience teaching theater and directing. (This full day program is a four week course. The day will consist of theater related activities but may also include Swimming.)
Dance Academy: Ages 5-16
A program for boys and girls who have an interest in dance or just love to move to music, with skills ranging from first-time participants to advanced students. Classes are designed for students of all skill levels to enjoy and learn to appreciate the physical movement and techniques of the art. Children will be grouped appropriately by age. Our youngest dancers, ages 5-8, will have an opportunity to enhance fine and gross motor skills, strength, endurance, expression and physical awareness with fundamental dance steps that incorporate balance and coordination.
All age groups (5-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-14) will spend half the day studying jazz, hip-hop, ballet, modern, lyrical, choreography, and other specialty dances, like theater and multicultural. The weekly schedule will include swimming. The Dance Academy is offered as two 4-week sessions, held 9am-4pm, with a recital performance for families to watch at the end of each session although 2-week sessions also are available. Description:
Barnard's Pre-college academic programs in NYC are for young women who are intellectually prepared for college-level work and will be entering 10th, 11th or 12th grade in Fall 2019. This year we will be offering six different programs:
Athena Summer Innovation Institute, 2 weeks, will prep young women with a range of skills necessary to build successful endeavors. Workshops range from creating a brand to creating a business plan.
Young Women's Leadership Institute, 2 weeks, Students attend on-campus Women's Studies courses and workshops and explore female-driven businesses and organizations as they understand the complex relationship between gender and leadership in this dynamic and interactive program. Due to the popular demand of this program YWLI will be offered in both session I and II.
The Summer STEM Seminars, 2 weeks, (S-Cubed) will study the sciences both in and out of classroom [with acclaimed Barnard professors] in fields ranging from environmental studies, economics, and mathematics, neuroscience and science history
Summer in the City (SITC) program: Participants have the option to study on campus for 1 week or 4- weeks. Participants in the 1- week program focus on a single subject while our 4- week program participants take two courses during their time on campus. Courses are offered in diverse subjects including Theatre, Psychology, Literature, Urban Studies, Web Development/Coding, Environmental Science Political Science, Architecture, Religion, Art History and more! All of our SITC program participants also participate in our Beyond the Gates series which highlights the professional industries in NYC as well as the city’s museums and exhibitions.
Dance in the City, 2 weeks Students will engage in academic dance courses at Barnard, perfect their technique at the Alvin Ailey Extension School, and attend professional dance performances all over NYC.
Each program offers a unique opportunity to explore New York City both in and out of the classroom while you live and learn like a college student, build leadership skills, and explore career opportunities. Your studies may include visiting an art gallery, attending a poetry slam, or meeting city leaders. Evenings and weekends are filled with organized trips to cultural attractions and landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and Rockefeller Center. You may want to catch a film at an outdoor festival, hang out in Central Park, or escape to Jones Beach for a day. In short, you’ll get an unforgettable taste of the college experience while living in one of the most exciting cities in the world.

SOCAPA's Summer Programs in Manhattan are ideally located in the heart of downtown - the thriving, artistic and educational hub of the city. Our Manhattan campus offers two 3-week sessions and two 1-week sessions (boarding or day) for high school students ages 14-18. Our residence hall, classrooms, studios, theaters and cafeteria are all within a few blocks of one another in the vibrant neighborhood between South Street Seaport, Wall Street, and Broadway.
Students attend most classes at Pace University's 140 Williams Street, a brand new, seven-story, 47, 200 square foot building dedicated solely to training in the performing arts. The building houses studio classroom space, two blackbox performance spaces, four dance studios (including one large performance hall), a soundstage, screening rooms, digital design labs and other multi- purpose training spaces.
