Description:
Spend you summer onstage with other talented young performers and experience the world of musical theatre, dance, and acting in a professionally based, four-week workshop (9am-4pm) for ages *8 -19 yrs old (*must have completed second grade). Five Performance Companies by age and ability so you study & perform with students in your age group. Learn with professionals from Broadway, Regional Theatre, Film, and TV (bio’s on the web site) and perform in an 800-seat professional theatre. A fifth week Teen Cabaret Company Vocal Workshop & performance is an option for advanced teens (by invitation). The hands-on workshop is in residence at the Professional Performing Arts Center at Queensborough College in Bayside, Queens, New York City. Includes classes in dance, acting, on-camera, musical theater, improv, music & voice, and more, in addition to being choreographed by several Broadway Guest Artists. Everyone performs in professionally directed, fully staged shows. Teens: excellent preparation for performing arts schools and colleges. Description:
The Binghamton University Summer Dance Insitute is a two-week intensive dance program for intermediate and advanced dance students who have at least five years of training and are between 10 and 21 years old. The program focuses on each dancer's developing technique and artistic growth by offering ballet classes (technique, pointe and variations, modern, jazz, character performance, choreography, hip-hop, ballroom dance and Pilates. The program culminates with a one-hour dance program for friends and families, Friday, July 23.

Exploring Musical Theatre

Participate in an exciting and rigorous program this summer with a special focus on musical theatre that includes acting technique, vocal technique, vocal coaching, choreography and creating and developing original work. In acting, you will work on scenes from musicals and explore, take risks, and make mistakes in an environment free of judgment. Learn to connect character and singing through creative and healthy use of the vocal instrument. Discover ways to convey meaning through movement with a focus on honing your personal choreographic voice. Take part in the vibrancy of a creative ensemble which will work toward the development of a “work in progress” performance piece. If you love musical theatre, this three week intensive will develop and strengthen the skills needed to propel your creative work to the next level.
Concentrating on the Visual: Painting, Sculpture, and Printmaking

Study drawing and painting everyday with workshops in sculpture and printmaking. Beginning each day with a drawing class, there will be studio time each day in painting. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, you will also explore sculpture and printmaking. Whether working to build a portfolio for college admissions or examining your artistic spirit, this course will challenge you to learn, discover and create. In addition to the class, there will be a class trip to a local museum the first week of the program as well as evening artist lecturess.

This five-week, intensive program offers hands-on experience and instruction in all aspects of filmmaking and focuses on four core elements: writing for the screen, directing, production, and post-production. Lectures feature hands-on camera work, augmented by special guest speakers and behind-the-scenes visits to Manhattan production studios and editing facilities. After you shoot three film exercises focused on different filmmaking techniques, you’re ready to write, direct, produce, shoot, and edit your own short video. You choose the format–narrative, documentary, or experimental. The final product is your completed short–to which you own the exclusive rights–ready for your professional portfolio, graduate school application, or Web distribution. Explore the creative and playful side of mathematics! Using the mathematics we know...and learning some new mathematical tricks as well... we’ll attack a wide variety of mathematical games, puzzles and riddles. Our adventures will lead us into the mathematical realms of Probability, Game Theory, Combinatorics, Psychology, and Philosophy.
Telling Stories For The Screen
Mondays & Thursdays, July 12–July 29, 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Introduce yourself to the craft of screenwriting by telling an original story from your own unique perspective. Examine concepts and techniques relevant to screenwriting for features or shorts, including three-act structure, characters, dialogue, action and format. In addition to exploring different approaches to narrative screenwriting, the course will emphasize individual development. Through lectures, screenings, writing exercises and one-on-one sessions, you will be given the tools to develop your writer’s voice and to begin work on your own screenplay
Creative Essays: Writing Well in High School and College
Mondays and Thursdays: July 5 - July 29, 2010. Two sessions offered: 4:30 pm-6:30 pm & 7 pm- 9 pm
non-residential; 12 student limit per session; taught by two experienced teachers
This course draws on the richness and flare of fiction to inspire more elegant and meaningful expository and creative nonfiction essays. Using multiple prompts, free writing and workshops, we will help you hone or inspire your writerly voice, making it more elegant, trenchant and effective.
The cost per student is $1000 for the four week, eight-session program.

Costs: Costs vary from program to program.
Application: The application fee is $25. Students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Students of all levels are welcome to attend, though you must be entering the 10th, 11th, 12th grade or a graduating senior.
Residential Programs: Students living on campus will enjoy evening and weekend programs and trips coordinated and run by a staff of Residential Counselors. Evening programs will include community building activities, film viewings and other social events. Weekend trips into the City as well as the surrounding area will include visits to museums; parks; musicals or plays; concerts and New York City neighborhood visits (Chinatown, Greenwich Village, Harlem, Lincoln Center, Little Italy, Times Square, etc.).
On the final Friday of the program, the programs will celebrate the completion of their Summer Intensives with a recital, exhibition, readings and performance of their work to take place throughout the day. Parents and friends are welcome to attend these activities as well.

DANCE CAMP: Jazz & Hip-Hop Focus
SOCAPA: School of Cinema & Performing Arts in New York City

Description:
SOCAPA's Summer Dance Programs focus on Urban Dance, primarily Jazz, Hip-Hop, African and Breaking, with an underlying emphasis on jazz technique. Classes are geared towards learning choreography and preparing routines to be featured in music videos shot by SOCAPA film instructors. Students in our Dance Program leave the school with a DVD portfolio featuring a number of their performances in a variety of projects.

On Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, our Dance students take classes in Jazz, Hip Hop, African and Breaking. Some classes concentrate on rhythm, individual expression, and utilization of the whole body, while others focus on character development through movement, as well as developing style, stage presence, and confidence. On Thursdays and Fridays the Dance groups go out on location and perform in the weekly music video shoot. See examples of our music video productions on our website link below.

Description:
This two-week, noncredit program focuses on ballet, pointe, and modern dance techniques. Learn classical and contemporary repertoire from Adelphi's renowned artist-faculty, as well as guest artists from companies such as Paul Taylor Dance Company and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Gain an understanding of the university level dance experience and beyond. The program will culminate in an informal performance.
Students will study at Adelphi''s beautiful, safe, and art-filled Garden City campus in our magnificent Performing Arts Center. Adelphi University is just 40 minutes by train from midtown Manhattan.
Curriculum: Classes may include a lecture or discussion on subjects such as dance history, injury prevention, nutrition and wellness for the dancer, the reality of a career as a professional dancer, music theory, audition techniques and a dancer's life at Adelphi, followed by rehearsal for the final performance.

Hofstra University Dance Academy under the direction of Hofstra Dance Coach Kelly Olsen is structured to meet the needs of dancers entering grades 2 – 12. This full day camp experience will expose campers to a variety of dance styles including jazz, pom, hip-hop and kick with an emphasis on style, technical execution, flexibility, jumps, turns and performance. Description:
Oswego’s Summerfame experience is a special residential, intensive experience for students entering grades 9 -12 to train in several performance disciplines: acting, vocal music, dance, musical theatre and technical theatre.
Musical Theatre
Performance students may elect to focus on acting or musical theatre at Summerfame. Classes in musical theatre concentrate on selections from the musical theatre repertoire. Acting and movement classes and seminars (in areas such as improv, neutral mask, auditioning techniques and college/career options) will add to your knowledge base and skill level. All performance students will work with a choreographer to complete the musical theatre experience. At the end of the program, open classes will allow students to exhibit material and performances for friends and families.
Design and Technical Theatre
Will you have a school musical next fall or spring? How will you light and stage it? What about sound? We provide you with professional knowledge, insights, tricks and practices in technical theatre design and stage management! Students interested in stage management and theatrical design receive instruction in all areas of technical theatre – set design, lighting, sound and special effects. You assist in managing the stages and acts at Oswego Harborfest, one of the largest musical festivals in the Northeast! Mixing real work experiences at Harborfest and high-level classes, Summerfame provides you with an opportunity to highlight your work and creativity.

Kevin Kennison, Casting Director for Disney on Broadway, National and international touring companies is also a producer, director and master teacher. Mr. Kennison also works in conjunction with ABC Primetime and Walt Disney Entertainment. He also casts off-Broadway and regional productions. A former faculty member of New York University Tisch School of the Arts and the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, Mr. Kennison teaches all levels of acting, audition technique, the business of acting, directing, theatre history, and drama in education.

Description:
Syracuse University Summer Dance Intensive promises a unique and challenging dance experience, one that will help you grow technically, artistically, and personally. You participate in dance classes with renowned faculty and enjoy a comprehensive curriculum that includes exposure to live performances, history, and repertory.The mission of the Summer Intensive is to develop well-rounded dancers through exposure to a variety of disciplines, with emphasis on classical ballet technique.

Program Information:
For serious ballet students • ages 12-20
Intermediate/Advanced, Advanced, and Pre-Professional

Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; some Saturday and Sunday classes.
An audition is required for acceptance into the Summer Dance Intensive. Auditions will be held in Syracuse, New York, and other East Coast locations.

*2010 Fees
Tuition for 2 weeks: $1,150; Room & board for 2 weeks: $750
Tuition for 3 weeks: $1,610 (20% savings for the 3rd week); Room & board for 3 weeks: $1,125
* $80 fee for a Saratoga Performing Arts Center trip for all students
* Activity fee required of residential students: $60 (3 weeks); $30 (2 weeks)
