Summer Equestrian / Riding Camps and Equestrian / Riding Clinics - New York / New York State

Equestrian Camps  |  Equine Business Institute

Alfred, NY - Alfred University
Alfred University Equestrian Camps

Alfred University offers four Equestrian Camps – 2-Day and 2-Residential. These camps create a wonderful opportunity for all levels of riders from beginners through advanced. Campers can bring their own horses or use AU's lesson horses during their week of camp. They will be assigned a horse and during the week have the opportunity to ride and care for the horse as they refine their skills based on their own personal goals and direction.

Residential English Camp: July 8-13 2018
Western Horsemanship Camp: July 22-27, 2018
Both of these camps are for boys and girls ages 14-17; these camps will offer specific riding instruction specific to your camp choice as well as taking into account the gifts and needs of the participants. We have two riding sessions each day. For both camps, students will define realistic personal goals at the beginning of the week and their lessons will be directed toward helping them achieve their goals. A student show will be held at the end of the week to allow riders to demonstrate the skills they have learned. In the evenings, campers enjoy planned recreational activities which may include indoor and outdoor games, movies, visits to nearby Foster Lake for picnics and campfires, hiking, social gatherings at a local coffee shop and a farewell party on the last night. Living, dining and learning together, students have ample opportunity to get to know each other and develop lasting friendships.
Equestrian Day Camp: June 25-28, 2018- open to riders of all levels, ages 8-13. The camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Both English and Western instruction will be offered. Campers will be assigned a horse to ride during the week and will also be involved with the hands-on care for that horse. When campers are not involved in riding they will be busy with arts and crafts projects and other recreational activities as well as learning stable management skills. A horse show will be held at the end of the day on Thursday so campers can demonstrate for their parents the skills they learned during the week.
“First Touch”: An Introduction to Horse Care, Handling and Riding: July 5-7, 2018.
This “mini” camp is designed for the beginner who has a passion for horses. Emphasizing safety first, the aim of the camp is to build confidence in each camper while they learn to handle, care for and ride horses. Also covered will be horse behavior activities based on studies that tell us a little more about how horses think and what naturally motivates them to learn. Also education will be offered in horse anatomy, horse tack, g rooming/handling and riding. This is the perfect camp for campers with little to no experience with horses.
