Description:
Summer Theatre Institute-NYC, marking its 11th year in New York, is the summer program of Youth Theatre of New Jersey (a non-profit, arts-education organization now in its 26th year).

Summer Theatre Institute - NYC, 2010, is a residential, theatre-training program for teens (ages 14-19, high school freshman and up). Students will be housed in the Meredith Willson Residence Hall located on the campus of The Juilliard School, Lincoln Center and classes will be held in professional theatre studios in the theatre district - The Nola Studios and New Dance Theatre Group. The program is open to actors, musical theatre actors, dancer-actors, playwrights and directors. STI-NYC offers a comprehensive and exciting theatre training experience. Along with a rigorous program of multi-discipline theatre skills, students have the opportunity to connect with some of the best professional theatre teaching artists in the field.
STI-NYC brings together theatre students who are passionate about the theatre and who wish to train at an intensive and serious level with professional teaching artists. Students arrive from across the United States, Canada, Asia and Europe to live together on a college campus in the heart of New York City. They immerse themselves in a multi-tiered program that includes professional theatre training, cultural field trips, shows, shopping, new friendships, and full days of acquiring new skills and exchanging creative ideas.

Beginning with the discovery and challenge of developing new physical theatre skills, students explore their creativity and immerse themselves in a month-long conservatory program that is rigorous, rewarding and fun. Classes are taught in acting, mime, playwriting, directing, musical theatre, dance, voice, movement styles, singing, stage combat, improv and much more. In an atmosphere that allows students to develop skills without competition or pressure, the emphasis is on exposure to different techniques, the process of training and ensemble work. At STI-NYC students develop strong friendships and are mentored by teaching theatre artists who enjoy the ideas, creative risks and energy of teen artists. Along with many performance projects, a final original show is presented to the public. Enhancing the training at Summer Theatre Institute- NYC, is the city of New York – living in the Lincoln Center area (home to The Juilliard School, the Metropolitan Opera House, Avery Fisher Hall, New York State Theatre), and feeling the cultural energy of the Big Apple - theatre, dance, music, architecture, museums, shopping, food, media, ideas, and inspiration.
