Description: For passionate high school artists (ages 14-18 unless otherwise noted) and those planning to pursue the arts on the college level. Portfolio/performance building opportunities and audition training techniques. Earn certification letters based upon participation and attendance. Participate in a performance, exhibition, or publication for friends and family.
2010 PROGRAMS
Songwriting Workshop (NEW!) (Ages 12-18)
June 28-July 9 ● Monday-Friday ● 9:30am-3:30pm ● $1,095
Develop your ability to write, record, perform, and promote your own songs! Receive instruction on piano and/or guitar, lyric writing, music theory and arranging. Learn to use Pro-Tools and Garage Band. Enjoy “hands-on” recording sessions and refine your performance skills. Receive a DVD of the concert!
Creative Writing Institute (NEW!)
July 12-August 6 ● Monday-Friday ● 9:30am-3:30pm ● $1,995
Study various powerful genres: nonfiction, fiction, poetry, screenwriting, and the essay focusing on voice, character, and narrative. Become critical thinkers and readers. Produce polished pieces you may use for college essays and/or award submissions. Publish selected work in the institute magazine!
Jazz Workshop (NEW!)
2 sessions: July 12-23, July 26-August 6●Monday-Friday ● 9:30am-3:30pm ● $1,095/session
Join a fun, focused, and supportive environment where you can study jazz and play with motivated peers under the guidance of passionate musicians and educators. All levels of experience are welcome, from beginning to advanced, including classical, rock, and country music players and those with no previous jazz training. Receive a DVD of the final concert.
18th Annual Visual Arts Institute (Ages 15-18)
July 12-August 6 ● Monday-Friday ● 9:30am-3:30pm ● $2,095
Attend master workshops in drawing & painting and sculpture. Choose figure (life) drawing, non-traditional sculpture, fashion design (NEW!), or printmaking/silk screening as your elective. Learn how to develop your portfolio, document your work, and navigate the college admissions process. Display your work in the exhibition!
Filmmaking Institute
June 28-July 23 ● Monday-Friday ● 9:30am-3:30pm ● $2,095
Advance your knowledge of visual storytelling. Write, direct, and act in original movies. Produce work that may be used in the college application process. Edit using a professional digital editing system. View your films at the final screening. Take home a DVD of your movie!
Journalism Institute
June 28 to July 9 ● Monday-Friday ● 9:30am-3:30pm ● $995
Develop skills in basic reporting, interviewing, writing, editing, and publishing practices emphasizing hands-on journalism experience. Learn to create powerful images with words applying investigative and analytical skills. Collaborate to design and contribute to the institute’s blog!
Photography Institute
July 12-August 6 ● Monday-Friday ● 9:30am-3:30pm ● $2,095
Develop technical and aesthetic skills using your digital and 35mm cameras! Learn lighting methods, and use of computer software. Explore 35mm B&W photographic developing techniques. Build your portfolio guided by accomplished instructors. Display your work in the exhibition!
Shakespeare Institute
July 12-August 6 ● Monday-Friday ● 9:30am-3:30pm ● $1,995
Analyze and interpret Shakespeare’s text. Develop skills to create characters utilizing your body, voice and imagination! Explore the art of stage combat. Develop performance skills and audition techniques. Receive a DVD of your performance!
Musical Theatre Institute
