Description:
The Pre-College Program allows rising seniors and exceptional juniors with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better to enroll in one of several exciting college courses and gain experience at a top-ranked research university in the summer.
• Earn college credit. Unlike other programs hosted for high school students on college campuses, courses offered to Fordham Pre-College students are part of the regular summer curriculum. That means you will complete college-level coursework and earn credits while sharing the classroom with current undergraduates and Fordham faculty.
• Make valuable connections with students, professors, and administrators. Spend time on a college campus and make more informed decisions about your future.
• Strengthen your college application with a proven record of your abilities.
Pre-College courses are specially selected from among Fordham''s course offerings for Summer Session II- July 5 - August 6, 2018. Courses cover a wide range of subjects and disciplines, and many can be used to fulfill university core requirements.
Course options include:
• The Ground Floor: An introduction to business
• Introduction to Fashion and  Culture: Study fashion as a form of communication
• Business and Ethics of Sports: Learn about the issues that govern professional and amateur sports
• Introduction to Archaeology: Explore traditional methods and new scientific techniques

Program Information:
This is a commuter program for high school students entering 12th grade, and in some exceptional cases, 11th grade.
Dates: July 5 - August 6, 2018
Cost: $900 per credit. Classes are either 3 or 4 credits.

NEW! STEM Scholars: Art Forensics (Grades 11-12)
June 25 – July 6. Monday-Friday. 9am-5pm. $1,260/$1,135 (discounted tuition) (discounted tuition) Join members of the Purchase College faculty in small-group, research-based projects and coursework on campus. Develop methodologies for determining the composition of oil paints after they have been applied to a stretched canvas. The resulting methodologies will be used to detect fakes and frauds in the art market.
STEM Scholars: Mars Mapping (Grades 9-12) (Grades 11-12)
July 9 - 20. Monday-Friday. 9am-5pm. $1,400/$1,260 (discounted tuition) Join members of the Purchase College faculty in small-group, research-based projects and coursework on campus. Develop original hypotheses about geological and climate processes on Mars, and evaluate and test those hypotheses through the analysis of imagery available from the various orbiters that are currently exploring Mars.
STEM Scholars: Food Science (Grades 9-12)
July 23 - August 3. Monday-Friday. 9am-5pm. $1,400/$1,260 (discounted tuition) Join members of the Purchase College faculty in small-group, research-based projects and coursework on campus. Determine “hidden” lactose levels in non-dairy foods. Use a series of enzymatic reactions and fluorescence detection in a microplate reader to measure levels of “hidden” lactose in nondairy foods such as bread, confections, and dry baking mixes to help alleviate this issue.
NEW! Advanced 3D Game Design with Unity (Grades 9-12)
June 25-July 6. Monday-Friday. 9:30am-3:30pm. $1,100/$990 (discounted tuition). With Unity, an industry grade design software, aspiring game designers will learn level editing, 3D modeling, intermediate event scripting, and the impact of game play on user experience. Next, go well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes and create an immersive 3D world learning the physics behind 3D games, exploring beginner event scripting, level design, controlling the flow of gameplay, and storytelling.
NEW! Code your Own Adventure and Drone Quest (Grades 9-12)
July 9-July 20. Monday-Friday. 9:30am-3:30pm. $1,200/$1,080 (discounted tuition) Learn how to create your own text-based adventure games with variables, conditional logic, images, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Also, in this hands on, interactive class you will learn how to fly and drive drone robots. Working in teams you will be able to code your drone to compete in missions that will prepare you for the ultimate team challenge!
NEW! Create an App and Virtual World (Grades 9-12)
July 23 – August 3. Monday-Friday, 9:30am-3:30pm. $1,200/$1,080 (discounted tuition) . Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized app & game development tool, explore the world of web-based (HTML5) mobile apps. Learn the basics of mobile app design and game development and understand how the world of App publishing functions. Next, learn the foundations of VR design by creating your own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments, and crafting memorable 3D experiences in this cutting edge environment.
