The PreCollege Program
Each summer Pratt Institute’s PreCollege program welcomes nearly 400 high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors to our Brooklyn campus, where they encounter life as an art and design college student. Students choose a major modeled after Pratt’s undergraduate offerings. To complement this course, students are automatically enrolled in foundation, art history and portfolio development classes. Upon completion of the program students earn four elective college credits. This is an intensive full-time program; classes meet Mon-Fri, and extra-curricular cultural and social activities are scheduled evenings and weekends.
Majors include: Architecture, Art and Design Discovery, Creative Writing, Cultural Studies, Digital Arts, Digital Imaging & Photography, Fashion Design, Film/Video, Fine Arts/Painting and Drawing, Graphic Design, Illustration (Digital), Illustration (Traditional), Industrial Design, Interior Design, Jewelry/Metal Arts, Photography, Sculpture, Sequential Art and the Comic Book

Explore architecture and design this summer at Center for Architecture (CFA) in Greenwich Village. Our week-long design studios give young people entering grades 3-12 a chance to develop their own architectural designs and models. Each week focuses on a different topic and combines hands-on art and building projects with one-of-a-kind trips to notable buildings, parks and architectural sites.
Activities include drawing, 3-D model-making, interior design, city planning, computer graphics, engineering, 'green' design projects.

Also an Intensive 2-week Architectural Design Studio for high school students (July 18-29, 2016)

Program Information:
Dates: Weekly programs run Monday - Friday, June 20 through August 26, 2016.
Programs are for students entering grades 3-12 in the Fall. Classes are limited to 18 students; 10 students for Digital Design classes.

NYU High School Summer Art Intensive

The NYU High School Summer Art Intensive is a 3-week residential pre-college program that gives established and beginner creatives interested in the broad scope of art an introduction to the experience of being an art student at a prestigious New York City institution. 36 students, ages 16-18 will be immersed in approximately 40 hours per week of instruction in college-level studio art classes, guided studio time, and visits to art galleries, artist studios, museums, and other artistically relevant locations. Students will:
• Experience first-hand the challenges and experiences of being an NYU art student
• Receive dedicated time and instruction towards the development of core skills requisite to both building a strong college preparatory portfolio and becoming a well-rounded critical thinker
• Have access to NYU’s remarkable facilities in painting, ceramics, digital labs, laser engraving, 3D printing, and more
• Develop core skills including: drawing, painting, clay, Photoshop/Illustrator, and other digital rendering processes
• Gain access to other creative institutions in New York City (Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The Whitney Museum of Art)
• Mount a final exhibition of art work in one of NYU’s East Village student art galleries
Classes will take place at NYU’s Barney Building on 34 Stuyvesant Street in the heart of New York City’s East Village, one of the city’s most exciting neighborhoods. Residence hall housing is mandatory.

NYIT Academy is a dynamic winter or summer program that provides academic instruction, experiential learning, service learning and cultural programming.
These programs are ideal for students between the ages of 15 and 22.
Students can choose to attend various programs while the Academy is in session. NYIT Academy also offers a room and board option for out-of-town and international students.

Exploring Architecture in Manhattan: Participate in design practice, theory, history, CAD, museum and office visits, modeling, presentation, and portfolio preparation. ( First  four weeks only)
Engineering and Computing Sciences: Includes electronic music, coding, gaming, hacking, robotics, 3D printing, CAD, prototyping, materials science, and nanotechnology. (Must do two weeks, Summer I and II are in Manhattan and Summer III and IV are in Old Westbury)
Arts and Sciences: Brand Yourself! Including graphic design, 3D printing, photography, illustration, and typography; Create Motion!: 3-D modeling and animation, game design, and motion capture.
Hospitality and Management: This 4-week program incorporates academic studies; professional industry tours and guest speakers representing all aspects of leadership in the hospitality/business world - and engages students with New York and U.S. cultural experiences.
Health Professions: This 3-week academy will expose students to programs in nursing, clinical nutrition, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies and osteopathic medicine. Students will participate in lecture and hands-on laboratory sessions in our state-of-the-art facilities. Included are tours of the anatomy, simulation, and biomechanics labs. (Three weeks consecutively.)
Urban Administration: Introduces City Hike, a walking tour of New York and its surrounding neighborhoods. This program allows students to explore the City while also doing volunteer projects that promote reflection and the importance of Urban Administration.

SVA's Pre-College Program is designed for high school students who want to enhance their creative skills, learn more about a particular field of art, develop a portfolio and/or experience the challenges and triumphs that exist at one of the most dynamic art colleges. Students select one course, which is scheduled Monday - Friday, 9am - 4pm for the duration of the program.

CODE (Ages 10-17) - The Code curriculum is for campers that want to learn the foundations of software development. Instruction in Python, C++, and Java programming. We evaluate all campers on the first day and direct them to the best possible class for them based on their desires.
ANIMATION (Ages 8-17) - Starting at learning how to draw with the computer and moving all the way up to making interactive movies. You’ll work closely with our teachers as you learn essential animation techniques and action scripting while you choose your path between animator or game designer.
WEB (Ages 8-17) - The Web curriculum is for those who want to make their own web pages, sites, and learn the foundation of web development. Campers create their own web pages and Internet applications. The primary focus is HTML, the DNA of the Internet. Advanced users may delve into php database programming.
FILM (ages 10-17)-Everybody has a video recorder these days. Let’s make the most of it with our video editing course. Got a creative kick? Spend a week or more in a moviemaking environment and learn the tricks of the trade. You’ll become a proficient video editor and have a great time doing it.
