Brooklyn, NY - Polytechnic Institute of NYU
The Mathematics Institute & SAT Prep Program at Polytechnic Institute of NYU

Description:
The Mathematics Institute at Polytechnic Institute of NYU focuses on giving high school students real-world, problem-solving experience with an emphasis on pure and applied mathematics. Students will build their skills within areas such as Number Theory, Geometry, Combinatorics, and Elementary Analysis. Pre-Calculus and calculus are taught in small classes and are designed to prepare students for the rigor of college study. Polytechnic Institute of NYU professors teach these essential courses using state of the art equipment and software such as IBM ThinkPad and MATLAB software. Through MATLAB students learn how to combine their knowledge of mathematics and computer programming to use this powerful tool that is used by many engineers and others who use computational mathematics in their work. Participating students who experience a high degree of success will be invited to become a part of the multi-year program. Additionally, students will receive a voucher from Polytechnic Institute of NYU, which will permit them to apply the tuition paid for these courses to tuition costs freshman year at Polytechnic.

Houghton, NY - Houghton College
Houghton Summer Excellence Camps
Leadership, Mathematics, Technology, Fine Arts, Forensics

Description:
Computer Science Camp
Houghton College Computer Science Camp is an exciting week where campers will explore the basics of computer science. Campers will learn the mechanical aspects of computers and have the opportunity to build complete computer systems. Each camper will use the powerful programming language, Alice, to learn the basics of object oriented programming. This hands-on look at the architecture and mechanical function of computer science will culminate in the construction and coding of 3-D movies and games.
Fine Arts Camp
Houghton College Summer Fine Arts Camp introduces students to the intellectual and technical rigors of professional art and design training. Talented high school students from around the region come to experience one week of intense full-time study in art and design. Courses include drawing, watercolor painting, ceramics, book and papermaking, and digital photography. These classes will help build technical skills and introduce students to design processes. Meet professional working artists and gain exposure to current and historical works of art while learning new techniques and concepts to enhance your studio skills.
Forensics Camp
Houghton College Forensic Camp is a camp designed to tap the inner investigator. Campers will learn skills and techniques used in laboratory investigations, while also performing tasks such as fingerprinting, running ballistics test, identifying blood splatter and testing drug residue. With these techniques, campers will be able to solve mysteries in no time.
President's Institute for Student Leadership
A true leader guides by example. According to Houghton College President Shirley Mullen, the President’s Institute for Student Leadership is about “teaching students to be whole people in a fragmented world—people who bring their thinking, their feeling, and their doing together—all with in the context of their spiritual and moral commitments.” Houghton College invites students entering grades 11 or 12 to a week of conversation on “The Big Questions” and challenges that will give campers the tools to become a person of influence in the world. This experience will transform that way students think and will encourage campers on their leadership journeys.
Math Camp
Houghton College Math Camp is an exciting week where campers will experience the fundamentals of mathematics. Campers will analyze methods for making and breaking codes, investigate symmetry patterns in wallpaper and art, and compete in team contests to help build confidence in problem solving skills. Campers will spend time with Houghton faculty and students at Math Camp and experience math as a living, growing area of discovery where new questions are asked and explored.
