Description:
SOCAPA Summer Programs in Brooklyn are hosted at New York University’s BROOKLYN Campus, located at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge in downtown Brooklyn. Our Brooklyn campus offers 1-6 week sessions (boarding or day) for high school students ages 13-19. Just steps away from two of Brooklyn’s most popular neighborhoods, Brooklyn Heights and the artistic haven of DUMBO, the Brooklyn campus provides the creative energy and backdrop for an exciting summer arts experience.
Students stay in the modern Othmer Residence Hall, eat most of their meals at the campus cafeteria, and attend most classes right on the NYU Campus or at our sister campus in downtown Manhattan at Pace University. Brooklyn facilities include the Dibner Auditorium (300 Seats) and the newly finished Kumble Performing Arts Center, which houses the Kumble Theater (350 Seats), two dance studios, a black box theater, and the best photography facilities and filming locations in Brooklyn.

Program Information:
FILMMAKING: Narrative and Documentary. Write, direct, and produce films. Shoot in HD and edit with Adobe Premiere.
DANCE: Contemporary Jazz and Hip-Hop. Learn technique and choreography. Perform in Dance Videos and on stage.
PHOTOGRAPHY:: 35mm Film and Digital. Learn studio and lighting techniques, fine art, documentary, and portrait. Darkroom, Photoshop, and Lightroom. Produce a web portfolio.
ACTING: For Film and Stage. Learn Meisner and Method techniques, scene preparation, monologues, and audition technique. Act in films and perform on stage.
MUSIC: Singer/Songwriting and House Band intensives. Rock, jazz, and popular music. Write/arrange and record your own music. Classes in music theory and the business and marketing of music. Shoot an album cover and record a music video for your original song!
SCREENWRITING: Develop two short screenplays and one longer screenplay...or the first act of a feature-length screenplay.

NYIT Academy is an immersive New York college experience for students ages 15–20. Our programs combine academic instruction with hands-on learning opportunities and unique cultural experiences. All our programs are offered in both tuition-only and campus life immersion packages, which include chaperoned housing and additional social, academic, and cultural programming.
Students can choose to attend various programs while the Academy is in session. NYIT Academy also offers a room and board option for out-of-town and international students.

SOCAPA's Summer Programs in Manhattan are ideally located in the heart of downtown - the thriving, artistic and educational hub of the city. Our Manhattan campus offers two 3-week sessions (boarding or day) for high school students ages 16-19 and one 1-week session (boarding or day) for high school students between the ages of 15-19. Our residence hall, classrooms, studios, theaters and cafeteria are all within a few blocks of one another in the vibrant neighborhood between South Street Seaport, Wall Street, and Broadway.
Students attend most classes at Pace University's 140 Williams Street, a brand new, seven-story, 47, 200 square foot building dedicated solely to training in the performing arts. The building houses studio classroom space, two blackbox performance spaces, four dance studios (including one large performance hall), a soundstage, screening rooms, digital design labs and other multi- purpose training spaces.

Develop methodologies for determining the composition of oil paints after they have been applied to a stretched canvas. The resulting methodologies will be used to detect fakes and frauds in the art market.
UPDATED! STEM Scholars: Mars Mapping (Grades 9-12)
July 9 – 20. Monday-Friday. 9am-5pm. $1,400/$1,260 (discounted tuition) Join members of the Purchase College faculty in small-group, research-based projects and coursework on campus. Develop original hypotheses about geological and climate processes on Mars, and evaluate and test those hypotheses through the analysis of imagery available from the various orbiters that are currently exploring Mars.

July 23 – August 3. Monday-Friday. 9am-5pm. $1,400/$1,260 (discounted tuition) Join members of the Purchase College faculty in small-group, research-based projects and coursework on campus. Determine “hidden” lactose levels in non-dairy foods. Use a series of enzymatic reactions and fluorescence detection in a microplate reader to measure levels of “hidden” lactose in nondairy foods such as bread, confections, and dry baking mixes to help alleviate this issue.
Architecture Intensive (Grades 9-12)
July 22 – August 3. Monday-Friday. 9:30am-3:30pm. $1,200/$1,080 (discounted tuition) Design, draft, and model a structure or space of your choosing during studio work sessions. Learn how to manipulate space, materials, and style through exercises that focus on drawing and thinking and through demonstrations of the properties of assorted materials. Draw and use architectural tools and techniques that are presented. Learn to translate your drawings into computer models in daily basic AutoCAD workshops. Use your architectural drawings to construct a model of your unique architectural design.
Songwriting Workshop (Grades 9-12)
