Adelphi University Pre-College Summer Dance Intensive

Description:
This two-week, noncredit program focuses on ballet, pointe, and modern dance techniques. Learn classical and contemporary repertoire from Adelphi's renowned artist-faculty, as well as guest artists from companies such as Paul Taylor Dance Company and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Gain an understanding of the university level dance experience and beyond. The program will culminate in an informal performance.
Students will study at Adelphi''s beautiful, safe, and art-filled Garden City campus in our magnificent Performing Arts Center. Adelphi University is just 40 minutes by train from midtown Manhattan.
Curriculum: Classes may include a lecture or discussion on subjects such as dance history, injury prevention, nutrition and wellness for the dancer, the reality of a career as a professional dancer, music theory, audition techniques and a dancer's life at Adelphi, followed by rehearsal for the final performance.

July 17-31, 2010. Students must be entering grades 10, 11, or 12 in fall 2010 in order to participate.
Tuition: Residential Option: $2500 (includes room and board, transportation and tickets to performances and events)
Commuter Option: $1770 (includes a meal card for lunch and dinner)

Adelphi University Pre-College Summer Jazz Intensive

Description:
This performance-focused program is designed to strengthen the jazz skills and artistry of promising student musicians, and further prepare them for entry into premier jazz ensembles and programs at the university level. Students will learn and play alongside esteemed jazz artist-teachers, and be immersed in jazz performance while participating in small combo rehearsals, master classes, and improvisation workshops. Professional recordings of students' final performances will be provided.
Students will study at Adelphi's beautiful, safe, and art-filled Garden City campus in our magnificent Performing Arts Center. Adelphi University is just 40 minutes by train from midtown Manhattan.
Curriculum: Students participate daily in instrument specific workshops, jazz combo rehearsals (preparing for a final performance), master classes, and theory/improvisation and jazz listening/history classes. When not involved in rehearsals and classes, students have the opportunity to enjoy planned activities both on and off campus, including two carefully integrated and closely chaperoned trips to New York City venues (including a trip to a premier NYC jazz club).

Adelphi University Pre-College Summer Theatre Intensives

Description:
We offer two specialized theatre programs that provide students the opportunity to become truly immersed in theatre and substantially strengthen their skills and artistry, while being part of a challenging University-based learning community.
Students will study at Adelphi''s beautiful, safe, and art-filled Garden City campus in our magnificent Performing Arts Center. Adelphi University is just 40 minutes by train from midtown Manhattan.
Broadway Musical Two-Week Boot Camp
Dates: July 18-31, 2010
Tuition: $2,500 residential option only
Students will participate in the following classes from 9:00 a.m-12:00 noon; acting, voice, movement, and then attend rehearsal of musical theatre pieces from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., culminating in a public presentation of musical theatre pieces. Students will be provided with a professional recording of their final performance.
Creating Cabaret Theatre One Week Camp
Dates: July 18-24, 2010
Tuition: $2,500 residential option only
Students will participate in an intensive workshop consisting of the following classes from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; short form sketch writing, acting ensemble building and history of cabaret theatre. Short form sketches will be presented at the end of the week. Students will be provided with a professional recording of their final performance.

Adelphi University Summer Flute Intensive

Description:
This program is prepared to build the repertoire, required technical skills, and expressive abilities of all flutists. Students are permitted to follow their curiosity, to think creatively, improvise, and learn the extent and intent of composer tools of all eras and countries, working both independently and in ensembles with others.
Students will study at Adelphi''s beautiful, safe, and art-filled Garden City campus in our magnificent Performing Arts Center. Adelphi University is just 40 minutes by train from midtown Manhattan.
Curriculum: This workshop curriculum skillfully weaves international artistic and extended-technique disciplines into everyday practice. Through project-based learning, Global Flute Workshop students tackle solo and ensemble repertoire of all eras, including the most recent international trends with their composers, in ways that are engaging, meaningful, fun, and adaptable to a variety of tastes and learning styles.
