Description:
designed to provide an enriching academic and social experience for academically talented middle and high school students • students attend one class intensively (7 hours daily) over a three-week session • classes are offered in humanities (e.g., logic, international politics, cognitive psychology), writing, math and computer science, (e.g., probability and game theory), and science (e.g., biology, chemistry, and physics) • a varied daily activities program is provided for students outside of class time

New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA) School of Dance

Description:
Supported by the Office of the Governor and the State Legislature and administered by the State Education Department, the School of Dance is directed by Carolyn Adams, former Paul Taylor dancer, faculty member of Julliard, and the President of the American Dance Legacy Institute. This program includes daily instruction in modern dance technique, composition, music for dance, repertory and performance, end-of-summer workshop performance, films and videos shown with faculty commentary, trips to concerts and National Museum of Dance. There are also recreational activities.

New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA) School of Jazz Studies

Description:
Supported by the Office of the Governor and the State Legislature and administered by the State Education Department, this program is a learning opportunity for talented students interested in improving their performance skills and increasing their knowledge of improvisation and jazz styles. There is opportunity to perform in small combos in addition to taking lessons and master classes on your major instrument. Other classes include improvisational theory, jazz history, and special topics by guest artists. Students attend Jazz Festival at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and evening concerts.

Supported by the Office of the Governor and the State Legislature and administered by the State Education Department, in a unique partnership with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), this program provides students opportunity to study with some of the finest musicians in the world. A full orchestra, wind ensemble and string orchestra work side by side with the Philadelphia Orchestra members. Students attend regular performances and rehearsals at SPAC

Description:
Pre-College Program in the Liberal and Studio Arts provides an opportunity for academically talented high school students to enroll in up to two college courses during one of the college’s five-week summer terms. Classes meet 3-5 days a week and offer college credit. The residential option provides the experience of college life and learning.

Skidmore Flute Institute

Description:
The Skidmore Summer Flute Institute will celebrate its sixteenth season August 2-8, 2009. Director Jan Vinci developed the program in 1994 with the goal of guiding students and encouraging them to tap into their innate talents, thereby enabling them to play their best, expand their abilities, and better appreciate various performance styles and music of all periods. The program nurtures and inspires flutists to enthusiastically tackle the physical and mental challenges of performance, resulting in heightened confidence and self-esteem. Flutists will leave the Institute with a stronger grasp of research sources and enhanced knowledge that will help springboard them to greater levels of performance and a deeper understanding of music and the gifts it bestows.

The New York State Summer School of the Arts School of Ballet

Description:
Supported by the Office of the Governor and the State Legislature and administered by the State Education Department, the School of Ballet is directed by Damian Woetzel, principal dancer with the New York City Ballet (NYCB). This program combines intensive dance instruction with NYCB performances, lectures, and physical therapy instruction. Students attend all NYCB performances at Saratoga Performing Arts Center and take daily classes with NYCB principals and soloists. There is a specialized recreation program designed for ballet students.
