CHECK BACK SOON FOR 2018 UPDATES for New York and Massachusetts.
Sign up at for Spring Break and Summer Programs.
April 17-19, 2017- a three day program
Hydraulics Makerspace
- Your child has likely seen a backhoe working to move earth. A backhoe uses a hydraulic system to power the articulated arm and shovel. In our makerspace, children get to tinker and build table-top hydraulic machines of their own design. And not just any machines, but ones that perform specific tasks.
August 14-18, 2017, half-day
Summer Rocket Blast Off
- Each child designs, builds, tests and flies his or her own rocket. Rocket designs must be approved by the lead instructor. Your child uses rocket design simulation software to test different designs, motors and flight conditions. This design software is the real deal, used by professional engineers to design rockets for scientific research. The only difference is that it has been configured for use by young people.
August 14-18, 2017, half-day
Bridge Building
- Using engineering principals, each child engineers, builds and load tests an efficient, balsa wood and/or basswood model bridge that satisfies certain design criteria. Starting with a simple beam your child is introduced to engineering basics.
Outside we build wood trusses and combine them into a working bridge!
Catapult Engineering - Siege the day and make your own take-home tabletop catapult. Outdoors, teams build a trebuchet (a hurling machine) out of precut timbers and then engage each other in medieval challenges. Field games like Castle are also played.

Your camp leader is John Aviste, a professional engineer, accompanied by a trained assistant
