Summer Theatre Institute

Alfred University Summer Theatre Camp is an exciting, intensive program for students interested in learning more about theatre production and performance. Summer Theatre at Alfred provides a great opportunity for students to create, experience and develop perspectives and skills in theatre through full group sessions and with a good deal of individual attention, training and experience in theatre from our distinguished faculty. Our unique blend of broad choices and training in specific areas leads to many energetic classes and much individual growth. With a dynamic, engaging, talented and caring faculty, terrific facilities, and lovely surroundings, the Alfred University Theatre Institute could make this your best summer ever!
Morning sessions focus on actor training. Afternoons are devoted to design, technical theatre, voice and voice development. In the late afternoons students choose particular areas to work on, including voice for the stage, acting, design, technical theatre and/or stage managing. At least one trip to a professional theatre will be included in the program. The institute will conclude with a public performance of scenes and at least one rehearsed short play.
When not in class or rehearsal, students enjoy planned recreational activities which may include indoor and outdoor games, movies, hikes, bowling, social gatherings at a local coffee house as well as a farewell party on the last night. Fordham Summer Musical Theatre Intensive
Lincoln Center Campus in Manhattan

The Fordham Summer Musical Theatre Intensive is a five-week program in which you can focus entirely on your passion. With class time divided to address the multiple disciplines of musical theatre, you will hone your skills in song, spoken dialog, and dance. Without the pressure of other academic requirements, you will be able to release into the exploration of the craft.
• Do the work, and then take in the sights and sounds of NYC, where you can see some of the most accomplished performers in the world. The Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Broadway shows are your means to witness the spectrum of theatrical forms and performances.
• Watch how the techniques you learn in class are embodied on stage. Discuss with your peers and teachers your discoveries and then push beyond your own theatrical comfort zone.
• Ask questions of industry leaders. Past luminaries have included Mana Allen (Core Faculty Cap21), Kenneth Marks (Uncle Ben in Spiderman), Bartlett Sher (Lincoln Center Resident Director, and director of Metropolitan Opera's Two Boys); Chandra Lee Schwartz (presently Glinda in Wicked), Victoria Clark (presently Fairy Godmother in Cinderella), Michael Grief (director of Rent and Next to Normal), Paul McGill (Chorus Line), Heidi Blickenstaff (Little Mermaid), Michael McGoff (presently Production Stage Manager, La Cage aux Folles Tour), and JV Mercanti (Director/Casting Director).
